Details of the new season emerge

Pam Ash and John have been working hard over the summer break and have released information about the first three Cafe Scientifique sessions on the new season, the details of which are below …

Monday 30th September, 2013

The speaker will be Dr.Oscar Martinez-Alvarado who is a researcher at Reading University where he is a member of a research group linked to the Met Office. He will be talking about the weather patterns of the North Atlantic and their impact upon our weather.

Monday 14th October, 2013

The speaker will be Andy Stanford-Clark who is an IBM Master Inventor. Andy will be talking about smart technologies and what makes them smart and giving examples of how they can be used, e.g. “lifting people out of energy poverty in Chale”.

Monday 11th November, 2013

The speaker will be Dr.Paul Bingham who used to be the NHS Director of Public Health on the Island. He will be talking about ‘John Snow Bicentenary, Cholera Epidemiology, and the Isle of Wight’ John Snow discovered the source of cholera in the 19th century and Paul will also bring the subject up to date by looking at the ongoing problem of Cholera in Haiti.
